Business Skills Seminar

The Business Skills Seminar aims to highlight the importance of business skills within the fashion design industry. The seminar draws together key industry speakers to explain in detail the key areas of setting up a designer business including: the construction of a business plan, setting up a design studio, fabric sourcing, costing, sales and marketing, production and manufacturing.


Creative Pattern Cutting Seminar

The Creative Pattern Cutting Seminar invites students and lecturers to observe professional pattern cutters showcase a variety of different techniques and demonstrate ways of developing new and innovative ideas for design. The seminar also exhibits potential career paths in this area.


Fashion Industry Update

Fashion Industry Update informs course leaders about the latest developments in the industry and provides insight into the personal and business challenges the speakers have faced. 


Graduate Preview Day

Graduate Preview Day gives industry professionals an opportunity to assess the talent about to emerge from the UK’s top fashion colleges as well as to foster relationships between graduates and the industry. The event is attended by professionals from different spheres of the industry, including representatives from Net-a-Porter, Vogue, Burberry and Topshop. On the day, competition winners are announced and awards are given to students and institutions for portfolio quality. 



The BFC Colleges Council partners with various fashion companies to run industry led competitions, which offer students prizes to enhance their portfolios and increase their exposure to industry. Prizes can include graduate placements, paid internships, cash bursaries and garment manufacture. Topshop/Topman and Burberry have longstanding competitions, while more recently, the BFC have collaborated with Armani, Coach, Jigsaw x Pongees, Stradivarius and Piñatex by Ananas Anam.
